I’ve recently completed a refresher on Docker. Whilst working through this excellent MEAN stack setup with Angular 2 and Docker compose tutorial I realised that despite the docker compose setup being all present and correct my references to localhost were never gonna work correctly.
I’ve a number of Virtualbox VMs on my laptop that I needed to keep in place so the easiest option for me to get up and running with Docker was to install Docker Toolbox. Once installed, a Virtualbox VM running Boot2Docker (a cut down Linux distro) serves the Docker machine/env. I guess the assigned IP can differ but mine rolled out at 192.168.99.100 which means that any Containers spun up will sit on a port through this VMs IP address. Which is fine apart from when you’re working through tutorials or anything that expects your Docker setup on localhost.
So how can I set the VM as localhost? After thinking about HOSTS files and –add–host which didn’t seem to work it occurred to me that Virtualbox will allow for port forwarding. A quick addition to Virtualboxes rules and my Dev environment was up and running.

When running “docker-compose up –build” I experienced the following error:
Traceback (most recent call last):

docker-compose returned -1
This is very likely to be caused by a environment config setting. The easiest and first action to do here is to simply reinstall Docker Toolbox
Sure some of the original members may be missing in action The Vibrators being the worse hit with only their drummer standing. So I was intrigued as to whether they’d come across as a tribute band. I was also looking forward to seeing them as the last time I checked them out was at the 1996 “Holidays In The Sun” punk fest in Blackpool. The classics were given a new lease of life and original drummer “Eddie” doing a sterling job of powerhouse drumming whilst having a stint on vocals on some of the tracks.

999 I’d seen a bit more regularly and knew they’d be great live and they didn’t disappoint. All the classics with some stuff of their “new” album. Marvellous!
Had a brief chat with Eddie and Nick Cash at the merch stall after. Apologies to Mr Cash as (amusingly) my wallet had ran out of cash. But hey I do own your new album mate and I’m looking forward to the next one!
Jumped at the chance to see The Courtneys. It was disappointing really to see such a low turn out. There must have been about 30 of us in the crowd.
Upstairs on the roof terrace there’s some sort of shitty garden party thing going on and every so often you can here some awful shite droning over the PA and making it’s way down the venue walls. Thankfully, when The Courtneys appear at 10pm they kick up a right old racket and jolly good fun it is. The bassist mentions that Leeds is full of people everywhere and asks what the best thing is for breakfast. Someone shouts “porridge!” all a bit random.
It’s a shame that they only play for just over half an hour and there’s dry ice but you can’t have everything.
Sat in the pub opposite the venue before the gig we’re taking on a much needed cool beer in the 30+C heat. A quick visit to the cash machine for more Euros and we’re in the venue getting patted down by security and off we go.
The venue thankfully has air conditioning and is a bit over half full with the crowd appearing to be a mix of around 80% local Parisians and 20% Brits abroad.

The band appear and Machinaries Of Joy kicks things off. Another great gig. The Parisians seem a bit stunned at the bears. All good fun!
